Trainee / Junior - Environmental Surveyor-Consultant - Auckland and Christchurch We are a leading environmental consultancy company providing asbestos, mould, fire and building investigation services throughout New Zealand. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee / Junior Environmental Consultant to join our growing HazMat team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone looking to build a long-term career in environmental consulting. You will receive comprehensive training, mentorship from experienced consultants, and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised industry qualifications. You will be initially trained in asbestos surveying and air monitoring work with scope for further training in other areas of the business overtime. No prior asbestos experience is required. We provide comprehensive training, mentoring, and nationally recognised industry qualifications. About the Role As part of our experienced team, you'll work alongside senior consultants on a wide variety of residential, commercial and industrial projects. Your initial responsibilities will include: Conducting asbestos surveys across residential, commercial and industrial sites (training provided). Assisting with the identification, assessment and documentation of asbestos-containing materials (training provided). Collecting bulk material samples in accordance with industry standards and safe work procedures (training provided). Assisting with setting up air monitoring equipment and collecting air samples for asbestos fibre counting in accordance with industry standards (training provided). Recording site observations, photographs and inspection data using digital surveying software (training provided). Preparing accurate technical reports under the guidance of senior consultants. Positions available in Auckland and Christchurch. Travelling to sites throughout New Zealand as required. What We're Looking For A positive attitude with a willingness to learn. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good computer literacy and confidence using digital devices. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Physically fit and comfortable working in ceiling spaces, underfloor areas and active construction sites. A current, clean New Zealand driver's licence. The legal right to work in New Zealand. Desirable Qualifications and Experience A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Health or a related discipline. An understanding of field sampling techniques, data collection and chain-of-custody procedures. Strong technical writing and report preparation skills. Previous experience in construction, environmental consulting or hazardous materials is advantageous but not essential. What We Offer Comprehensive on-the-job training and mentoring.
