Job Description
SCADA Systems Ltd is a proud New Zealand company, founded in 1988 as an electrical engineering consultancy. SCADA Systems Ltd is an Auckland-based company with its office in the CBD. After a few short years we identified the need for, and began development of, our own electrical engineering design software: Elecdes Design Suite. Elecdes Design Suite (or EDS) is a world-leading suite of instrumentation, panel and electrical-CAD design software, sold in over 50 countries. EDS continually evolves in functionality and scope, incorporating research and development in software to solve real-world electrical engineering problems. About the role SCADA Systems Ltd is seeking junior C++ software developers to join our team. Our electrical engineering software encompasses multiple systems, including CAD, databases, Windows front-ends, and web. Our development work involves continued enhancement and addition to the existing EDS code, as well as the creation of new modules in the suite, much of which is driven by customer requests and feedback. We work as a team where novel solutions and ideas are valued and discussed throughout the development. You will be applying your skills to develop software that solves real-world electrical engineering problems. Your role will involve: Learning and working with the various CAD systems, APIs, and SQL databases used by our software. Reading, understanding, and enhancing existing code. Designing and implementing novel engineering algorithms. Working both independently and collaboratively with others. Reviewing and testing colleagues' code. Creating and updating customer-facing documentation. Assisting customers, occasionally outside of your normal work hours. The role may offer overseas travel opportunities to liaise directly with customers on-site. Skills We are seeking people with evidence of the drive to be a skilled C++ software developer. Candidates should have: A degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science, or demonstrated equivalent level of knowledge. Experience in designing, writing, testing and debugging code. A solid understanding of C++. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. A commitment to producing clear, concise, documented, and tested code. Additional useful skills: Experience using distributed version control systems (especially Git). MFC and/or .NET development. Database design and SQL programming.
