Policy Analyst About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful public policy that helps shape outcomes for learners across Aotearoa New Zealand. As a Policy Analyst, you’ll work alongside experienced policy professionals to develop high-quality advice for Ministers and senior decision-makers, contributing to some of the key challenges and opportunities facing the education system. This role combines rigorous analysis, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication to help inform government policy and decision-making. What You’ll Be Doing Undertaking policy analysis and research to develop evidence-based advice on a range of complex issues Assessing policy options, identifying risks, opportunities, impacts and implementation considerations Preparing high-quality written material, including briefings, Cabinet papers, Ministerial correspondence and reports Engaging with colleagues, government agencies, and external stakeholders to gather insights and build strong working relationships Supporting and leading policy projects from planning through to delivery Working collaboratively across teams to ensure policy advice is practical, well-informed, and deliverable Monitoring emerging issues and contributing to the ongoing evaluation of policy effectiveness What You’ll Bring Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to work through complex issues and develop practical solutions Excellent written communication skills and the ability to distil complex information into clear, concise advice for different audiences Confidence engaging with a wide range of people and building effective stakeholder relationships Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple pieces of work simultaneously An understanding of the public sector environment, policy development processes, or the machinery of government A relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, economics, law, education, social sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience An awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to improving outcomes for Māori learners Why You’ll Love This Role Work on policy that has a real impact for New Zealanders Develop your policy, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills within a respected government agency Be part of a collaborative and supportive team environment Gain exposure to Ministers, senior leaders and cross-government initiatives Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career growth If you’re a curious and thoughtful analyst who enjoys solving problems, working with people, and communicating ideas clearly, we’d love to hear from you.
