Job Description

Smith Crane & Construction – Harewood, South Island We are looking for a qualified Industrial Electrician / Service Technician to join our team, maintaining and servicing our southern Tower Crane fleet along with a range of heavy machinery and plant across multiple sites. This is a hands-on, field-based role combining electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic fault finding. You’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining complex equipment to ensure our cranes and plant operate safely and reliably. You’ll work closely with operators, site teams, and supervisors, responding to breakdowns, carrying out scheduled maintenance, and supporting equipment setup and commissioning across multiple sites. What You’ll Be Doing: Service, repair, and maintain tower cranes, heavy plant, and construction machinery Diagnose and fault-find across electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems Carry out preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs in the field Assist with crane mobilisation, erection, commissioning, and decommissioning Install, test, and repair electrical components, motors, sensors, and control systems Strip down, inspect, and repair mechanical components and assemblies Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and service manuals Use diagnostic tools and maintain accurate service records Work safely at heights and across varied site environments Ensure all work complies with health & safety and company standards What We’re Looking For: Registered with the NZ Electrical Workers Registration Board Strongfault findingskills Solid understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems Comfortable working at heights Skilled in cable work, cablepillingand termination Physically fit What We Offer: Minimum guaranteed: 40 hours per week Overtime rates + company vehicle Work with an industry leader in construction and heavy lifting.
