Job Description

Blockhouse Bay Healthcare Ltd - Auckland, North Island BriarGate Dementia Care Unit, operated by Blockhouse Bay Healthcare Limited, is a specialised 40-bed residential care facility in Bayview, Auckland. We provide dementia care, day care and respite care in a secure, supportive environment. Our experienced caregiving team undergoes ongoing specialised training, and we are committed to quality improvement and upholding the Code of Rights for every resident. Key Responsibilities: 1. Develop and implement targeted health communication objectives focused on dementia/Alzheimer's care, elderly fall prevention, geriatric nutrition, mental wellbeing, and family carer respite support, fully aligned with BriarGate's residential dementia care, day care, and respite care services. 2. Identify segmented high-need and at-risk audiences including on-site dementia residents, family carers of people with cognitive impairment, senior groups in Glenfield and North Shore, and families seeking aged care placement, and establish tailored outreach methods for each group. 3. Undertake regular research on New Zealand aged care industry standards, local dementia prevalence data, elderly health guidelines from the District Health Board, and resident health feedback, to ensure all promotion content is clinically accurate and up-to-date. 4. Write customised health education materials including dementia care handbooks, family carer guides, geriatric nutrition leaflets, and fall prevention brochures, and set up information displays in communal lounges, dining areas, and the conservatory to deliver health messaging to residents and visiting families. 5. Deliver themed presentations and interactive workshops to local community senior groups, resident families, and partner organisations, covering topics such as cognitive decline prevention, sensory stimulation therapy, carer burnout relief, and healthy ageing, during family information meetings, open days, and community events. 6. Work in conjunction with North Shore Hospital, local general practice clinics, District Health Board departments, and local aged care social service organisations to co-deliver community dementia awareness campaigns and elderly health promotion initiatives. 7. Collaborate with in-house registered nurses, licensed diversional therapists, and the Life Enhancement Coordinator to integrate health education into daily recreational activities, sensory therapy sessions, group mini-bus outings, and meal service guidance for residents. 8. Collect and analyse feedback from residents, family members, and community participants after each promotion activity, evaluate awareness improvement outcomes, and continuously optimise communication strategies, promotional materials, and presentation content to match evolving resident and community health needs. Qualifications: 1. A bachelor degreeor higher qualification in Public Health, Health Promotion, Nursing, Allied Health, Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field is essential. 2. Alternatively, at least three years of substantial experience in a health promotion, community engagement, or healthcare communications role within the aged care, health, or community services sector will be accepted if formal qualifications are not met. 3. Solid understanding of health promotion principles, aged care standards and regulations, dementia care best practices, and compliance requirements applicable to New Zealand residential aged care services. 4. Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret health data and resident feedback, identify health risks, and develop practical health education solutions. 5. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex health information clearly to residents, families, community groups, internal teams, and senior management. 6. High attention to detail and accuracy, combined with the ability to manage multiple community engagement projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and prioritise tasks effectively to achieve positive health outcomes for residents. Remuneration and work location: 1. Pay range from: $49-$51per hour 2. Minimum working hours: 30-37.5hours, full-time position What We Offer 1.
