Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern – Dunedin, South Island Shape the future of neonatal care in Southern New Zealand Health NZ Southern is seeking a Neonatologist or Paediatrician with a special interest in Neonatal Medicine to join our Level 3 NICU in Dunedin. This is a permanent role (0.8–1.0 FTE, negotiable) offering flexibility, variety, and the opportunity to make a real impact—both clinically and in how neonatal services and wider child health services are delivered across the Southern region. Supportive, close-knit multidisciplinary team Participation in neonatal on-call (1:5) and retrieval services Opportunity to help design and grow future models of care Strong teaching and research links with the University of Otago Lifestyle location with beaches, wildlife, and easy access to adventure About the role You’ll provide expert neonatal care across a full spectrum of services, including extreme prematurity, high-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, and therapeutic hypothermia , within a well-equipped Level 3 NICU. You’ll also: Contribute to neonatal retrievals (air and land) across Otago and Southland Support antenatal and perinatal decision-making Lead and mentor junior doctors Be actively involved in quality improvement, teaching, and service development Have opportunities to develop your interests and skills in general paediatrics if you wis. What you’ll bring FRACP (Neonatal/Perinatal) or equivalent (or eligible for MCNZ registration with scope that includes neonatal and perinatal medicine)) Recent Level 3 NICU experience, including transport Strong clinical leadership and teamwork skills Commitment to culturallyresponsivepractice and equitable care What we offer Salary: This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($198,386) and Step 15 ($282,645) per annum pro rata 6 weeks annual leave + 10 days CME leave Relocation support Kiwisaver+ indemnity cover Flexible working and wellbeing support Life in Dunedin ŌtepotiDunedin combines a vibrant cultural scene with an outstanding natural environment.
