About the Role The Practice Nurse provides primary care nursing support, patient interventions, and treatment within Te Kāika. The core role of the Practice Nurse is to deliver preventative care through CLIC and PHO programmes including: Cervical smears Cardiovascular risk assessments Diabetic reviews Immunisations Health promotion and education Recall and screening programmes Working as part of the general practice team, you will work within your scope of practice to provide patient-centred, culturally appropriate, and holistic care. You will work closely alongside GPs and the wider Te Kāika team to deliver an efficient, effective, and professional nursing service. Key Responsibilities Clinical & Professional Practice Provide urgent triage, including stabilisation and resuscitation support where required Assess patient presentations via phone and face-to-face consultations Follow up patient test results and communicate appropriately with patients Undertake clinical interventions, treatments, and health education Assist with minor surgery procedures Conduct health screenings and preventative health initiatives Attend home visits where required Maintain infection control standards and safe clinical practices Ensure compliance with NZ health legislation, HDC Code of Rights, Privacy Act, and organisational policies Work within nursing scope of practice and maintain professional accountability Patient Care & Health Promotion Deliver evidence‑based nursing care and health education Support chronic disease management and ongoing patient care Deliver immunisation and sexual health services Support national screening and recall programmes Advocate for patients and support whānau‑centred care Collaborate with public health providers and community agencies Promote equitable and culturally safe healthcare practices Cultural Safety & Teamwork Demonstrate understanding and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in nursing practice Deliver culturally appropriate and respectful care to diverse populations Participate in Te Kāika cultural wānanga as required Support and guide enrolled nurses and team members appropriately Contribute positively to a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment Skills, Experience & Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will have: Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) Previous Practice Nursing experience is essential Strong clinical assessment and communication skills Experience within primary care or community health settings Commitment to ongoing professional development Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment Commitment to culturally safe and equitable healthcare delivery Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills A current full NZ Driver Licence Why Join Te Kāika?
