We are now looking for an Assistant Category Manager to join our Product Team at our Support Office in Onehunga. About the opportunity This is a development-focused opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in product and category management. Working closely with the General Manager of Product & Marketing and the wider Product Team, you will support the management and development of HRV’s product categories. You will gain practical exposure across product ranging, pricing, margin analysis, competitor insights, promotions, supplier activity and new product development. You do not need to already be operating as a fully experienced Category Manager. We are looking for someone with strong commercial and analytical capability who is ready to learn, take on increasing responsibility and develop toward a Category Manager role. What you will be doing Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the development and maintenance of category plans and product roadmaps Analysing product performance, customer trends and competitor activity Assisting with product pricing, margin reviews and promotional analysis Maintaining accurate product, pricing and category information Preparing reports, presentations and commercial recommendations Supporting product range reviews and new product development projects Coordinating product launch plans and internal communications Working with Marketing, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations Assisting with product knowledge resources and training information Responding to information requests and completing category analysis Developing your commercial understanding of HRV’s products and markets As your capability and product knowledge grow, you will take on greater ownership of category planning and performance. About you You are analytical, commercially curious and confident working with data. You enjoy understanding how products perform, what customers need and how pricing, ranging and promotional decisions affect business results. You may currently be working as a category assistant, product coordinator, buyer’s assistant, commercial analyst, marketing analyst or in another product-focused role. You may also be an ambitious graduate with relevant commercial experience and strong analytical skills. You will ideally bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, marketing or a related field Experience in product, category, buying, marketing, sales or commercial analysis Strong Excel skills and confidence working with data and financial information Good PowerPoint and presentation skills An understanding of pricing, margins or commercial performance would be beneficial Strong research, analytical and problem-solving capability Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Clear written and verbal communication The confidence to work with stakeholders across different business functions A willingness to learn and take increasing ownership over time Experience in manufacturing, construction, installation services or consumer products would be helpful but is not essential.
