Dementia Tai Tokerau - Community Advisor Dementia Tai Tokerau – Whangarei, North Island Dementia Tai Tokerau is a leading organisation dedicated to supporting individuals living with dementia and their whānau (families) across the Northland region. We work collaboratively with health services, community organisations and iwi (Māori tribes) to ensure comprehensive, holistic support for all those we serve. The opportunity We are seeking a Community Advisor to join Dementia Tai Tokerau in a full-time (30 hours) role based in Whangarei Central, Northland. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their whānau. As a Community Advisor, you will be at the heart of our community engagement efforts, providing support, information and resources to help people navigate their dementia journey. You will work across the Whangarei and surrounding Northland communities, building relationships, identifying needs and connecting people with appropriate services and support. This role is crucial to our mission of ensuring that everyone affected by dementia has access to the help and information they need. What you'll be doing Provide information, advice and support to people with dementia, their whānau and carers. Conduct community outreach and engagement activities to raise awareness about dementia and available support services Assess individual and whānau needs and connect people with appropriate support, services and resources Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, healthcare providers and local organisations Organise and facilitate community events, support groups and educational workshops Provide culturally sensitive and person-centred support that respects the values and needs of diverse communities Document and maintain accurate records of client interactions and support provided Collaborate with the wider Dementia Tai Tokerau team to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery Contribute to the development and evaluation of community programmes and initiatives Identify emerging community needs and provide feedback to support service improvements What we're looking for: Ideally, you will have A qualification in health, social services, nursing, or a related field with a current APC in New Zealand Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Competent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft 365 suite and entering of client data into a database platform Proven experience working in community services, aged care, disability support or a related field Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds Knowledge of or demonstrated commitment to understanding dementia, its impacts and support needs Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities A compassionate, patient and non-judgemental approach to working with vulnerable people and their families Knowledge of cultural competency and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Māori communities and te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) Strong listening skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners Flexibility and adaptability, with willingness to work in various community settings Relevant qualifications in community work, social work, health sciences, psychology or a related field (and or equivalent experience) A current driver's licence Preferred: Experience working with older people or those with long-term health conditions; knowledge of Northland communities; bicultural practice experience What we offer Dementia Tai Tokerau is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace where our team can thrive.
