Along with a 7-hectare distribution centre and over 1000 employees, our site boasts a total of 11 plants which includes four milk powder plants, two cheese plants, a cream plant, a anhydrous milk fat plant plus a whey protein and casein plant. We have the capability to process an impressive 12 million litres of milk per day in peak season. About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga Play a key role in protecting and improving some of New Zealand's largest and most complex manufacturing assets. At Fonterra, the safety, reliability and integrity of our mechanical assets are critical to keeping our operations running efficiently. Reporting to the Asset Integrity Engineer, this role provides site-wide mechanical engineering expertise and technical assurance to ensure our assets remain safe, compliant, reliable and effectively managed throughout their lifecycle. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and Capital Project teams, you'll provide practical engineering leadership across design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and asset improvement activities. You'll play a key role in supporting asset integrity programmes, mechanical regulatory compliance, pressure equipment requirements and risk-based decision making. You will lead and support complex mechanical investigations, defect elimination and root cause analysis activities while developing practical, cost-effective solutions that enhance performance, extend asset life and reduce risk. You'll also contribute to design reviews, engineering changes, management of change processes and technical standards, ensuring alignment with legislative, regulatory and Fonterra requirements. Success in this role will come from your ability to influence stakeholders, provide trusted technical advice and share your expertise to build engineering capability across our sites. We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who thrives in complex industrial environments and enjoys solving challenging engineering problems. You'll bring strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgement and the ability to build trusted relationships across a range of stakeholders. Comfortable balancing operational needs, compliance requirements and long-term asset performance, you'll enjoy working collaboratively to deliver practical and sustainable engineering solutions. You'll ideally bring: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or demonstrated progress towards chartership. At least 5 years' relevant engineering experience within dairy, food, chemical, energy or another regulated process industry. Experience in asset integrity, reliability engineering and lifecycle asset management. Strong understanding of pressure equipment compliance, engineering standards and relevant New Zealand legislative requirements. Experience conducting failure investigations, root cause analysis and defect elimination activities. Knowledge of asset condition assessment, maintenance strategy development and risk-based decision making. Experience contributing to design reviews, commissioning, engineering modifications and management of change processes. Strong planning, prioritisation and stakeholder engagement skills.
