We have a range of exciting R&D ideas in development and need your help to turn them into practical software solutions for marine products and testing. This is a great opportunity for those interested in product validation, reliability engineering, and hands‑on testing of real-world marine electronics. As a Testing & Validation Engineering Intern, you will work alongside our Product Validation labs, supporting primarily EMC testing activities, helping ensure our products meet regulatory requirements before release. As an intern, you will gain hands‑on experience in how test cases are developed, executed and validated throughout the development lifecycle. You’ll also be involved in developing and maintaining test automation scripts, troubleshoot and investigate test failures, analyse test data, create validation reports and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality products solutions. Essential Functions: Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of mechanical components and systems, including basic CAD modelling and drawing creation. Support thermal testing activities such as setup, data collection, and analysis to evaluate heat dissipation and system performance. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop and refine mechanical solutions for product development. Help troubleshoot mechanical and thermal issues, working with engineers to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including test reports, design notes, and assembly instructions. Participate in the integration and validation of mechanical systems with electrical and software components. Engage in team meetings and design reviews, contributing ideas and feedback throughout the development process. Required Qualifications: You are currently studying a Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering degree, ideally in your 3rd year of study. You demonstrate technical knowledge, a practical mindset, and a true passion for mechanical engineering. You have a methodical approach to problem‑solving and a strong interest in latest manufacturing processes and technology. If you enjoy building mechanical systems, experimenting with sensors, or working on hands‑on engineering projects in your spare time, this might be your dream role. Internship Highlights: The Intern team plans to host one intern as part of our wider Intern Program. Over the 10-week period, you’ll collaborate with your intern cohort on a project and present your work to the business. Some interns may be invited to join the Navico graduate intake the following year. For students to be eligible for the grant they must: Have studied or be studying at a New Zealand tertiary education institute (note: students who have completed study overseas are not eligible). Be studying at NZQA level 6-10, or if study has been completed, the closing date of the last semester must be less than 12 months ago. Be studying science, technology, engineering design or business. Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand. Not have been previously employed at the business unless part-time or temporary.
