Anaesthetic Technician

OneSixOne Medical Group Ltd – Epsom, North Island The primary focus of this position is to provide safe, efficient and high-quality technical assistance to anaesthetists before, during and immediately following surgical procedures. You will work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, Registered Nurses and the wider perioperative team to support the preparation, delivery and completion of anaesthesia services. Your responsibilities will include: Prepare, check and maintain anaesthetic machines, monitoring equipment, airway devices and required consumables before and between procedures. Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance and emergence from general, regional and local anaesthesia. Support airway management, patient positioning, transfer and monitoring throughout the perioperative journey. Respond appropriately to equipment issues, changes in patient condition and anaesthetic emergencies, escalating concerns promptly. Maintain and order stock, medication controls, assisting team with administrative tasks, equipment records and infection prevention standards while supporting wider theatre operations. To be considered for this position, you must have: A recognised qualification in anaesthetic technology. A current Annual Practising Certificate. At least 3 year’s experience as an Anaesthetic Technician within a New Zealand hospital or surgical facility. Demonstrated competence in preparing and checking anaesthetic machines, monitoring equipment and airway devices. Experience assisting with general, regional and local anaesthesia. Sound knowledge of airway management principles and anaesthetic emergencies. Strong technical, observational and problem-solving skills. The ability to anticipate clinical requirements and respond calmly in time-critical situations. The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication, documentation and patient-service skills. Current legal entitlement to work in New Zealand. Applicants without recent New Zealand Anaesthetic Technician experience are unlikely to meet the requirements of this position. The following would be advantageous: Experience in elective day-stay surgery. Experience in Urology or Gynaecology. Experience working in a sole or lead Anaesthetic Technician capacity. Current advanced resuscitation training. Experience with difficult-airway equipment and emergency anaesthetic procedures. Experience with stock management, equipment maintenance and consumable procurement. Experience supporting theatre workflow, patient transfers or perioperative quality-improvement activities.
