About the Role We are seeking an experienced Physician to provide Respiratory Services, within Northland. The role encompasses acute inpatient respiratory consults and procedures, along with elective respiratory services such as outpatient clinics and bronchoscopy, including both flexible bronchoscopy and linear EBUS. While the primary focus of the role is respiratory medicine, there are also opportunities to participate in general medicine ward rounds on a regular basis, depending on your experience and interest. Our Respiratory team comprises of SMOs, a Nurse Practitioner, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, with additional support from the General Medicine team on the acute wards. Existing medicine specialties include: General and Acute medicine Respiratory Gastroenterology including a visiting hepatologist Cardiology Infectious Disease Endocrinology and diabetes Healthcare of the elderly Maternal Medicine Oncology and Haematology Renal medicine We have several new facilities including a new Laboratory, an endoscopy and cardiac catheter suite with the agreed funding for a new hospital which is currently in the planning stage. About the Team and Location Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three regional hospitals in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000. The Department of Medicine provides acute medicine care as well as outpatient/ non-acute/ elective inpatient care to the Northland community. Our department has a family feel with a positive culture, although a busy and challenging environment everyone looks after each other and has a real passion for what they do and why they do it. Teaching and mentoring our 28 medical registrars is an important part of our work. About you To be considered you must have or be eligible for vocational (or locum tenens special purpose) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine scope of practice.
