Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Horticultural Technology The School of Agriculture and Environment at Massey University is seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Horticultural Technology to join the team based at our Manawatū campus in Palmerston North. This position is a full-time, permanent opportunity. As a key member of our academic team, you will contribute to excellence in teaching, research, industry engagement, and postgraduate supervision, helping to advance the application of technology within New Zealand's horticultural sector and related farming systems. The role includes: Preparing and presenting lectures, tutorials and other classes with a focus on Horticultural Technology and aligned subjects, for students in our horticultural and agricultural programmes Leading and co-developing new curricula for courses that focus on the use of, practicability and economic feasibility of technology on New Zealand's horticultural enterprises and aligned farming systems Utilising, introducing and developing modern teaching methods, including electronic/digital tools, with the purpose to demonstrably enhance students' learning experiences and outcomes Designing and managing appropriate assessments for courses in line with the learning objectives of the courses Developing and undertaking an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme with a focus on horticultural technology and participating in team-based research Working proactively with industry and research partners Developing postgraduate opportunities and supervising postgraduate students Publishing papers and other scholarly works in academic journals and books and through other media Seeking both internal and external funding for research We are looking for an innovative and engaged academic with expertise in horticulture, technology, and research. You will: Hold a PhD in Horticulture or a related discipline, with a focus on the application and/or development of technology Alternatively, hold a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in end-user application, engagement, and adoption in agricultural or horticultural contexts Have a proven track record of successful tertiary teaching and student engagement Demonstrate experience in research excellence, including the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly articles Possess the ability to apply technical and research expertise to real-world challenges and opportunities within the horticulture sector Successful candidates will also receive up to 6.75% employer contribution to the NZ UniSaver Superannuation Scheme. Candidates will get the Massey University annual leave days and the five Massey University holiday days each year. In addition, a subsidised Southern Cross Healthcare plan is available for appointees and their whānau/family. The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of NZD$107,916 - NZD$166,584.
