Engineering Manager - Fixed Term (Three Years) Taylor Preston Limited is a proudly privately owned meat processing and export company located in Wellington's Ngauranga Gorge. For over 30 years, we have been a significant contributor to New Zealand's red meat industry, processing sheep, lamb, goats, beef and by-products for domestic and international markets. At peak season, more than 750 people are employed across our operation. We are seeking a highly capable and strategic Engineering Manager to join our leadership team and take ownership of the engineering function across our site. Due to the secondment of the incumbent into a major project this is a three year fixed term contract This is a pivotal leadership position reporting directly to the Plant Manager, with responsibility for ensuring our plant operates safely, efficiently and at maximum potential while driving continuous improvement and future-focused engineering initiatives. About the Role As Engineering Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Engineering Department, overseeing maintenance, capital projects, compliance, asset management and team development. Leading a team through your direct reports, the Maintenance Manager and Project Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting production performance, improving reliability and ensuring the ongoing success of our operations. Key Responsibilities Lead the Engineering function to maximise plant reliability, efficiency and performance Develop and implement effective preventative and planned maintenance programmes Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency projects Oversee capital projects from concept through to implementation Manage engineering resources, budgets and external contractors Ensure compliance with all resource consent requirements and regulatory obligations Maintain strong relationships with NZ Food Safety, councils, suppliers and industry stakeholders Provide leadership, coaching and performance management for engineering team members Foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement Apply expert engineering knowledge to solve complex operational and maintenance challenges About You You will be an experienced engineering leader who combines technical expertise with strong people leadership and commercial acumen. To be successful, you will ideally have: A tertiary qualification in Engineering Proven engineering management experience, ideally within meat processing, food manufacturing, or a similarly complex industrial environment Extensive experience managing maintenance systems and asset reliability programmes Strong project management and continuous improvement experience Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving abilities Knowledge of refrigeration and steam systems Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams Strong communication and stakeholder management skills A collaborative leadership style and ability to influence across all levels of the business Strategic thinking combined with a hands-on approach when required What We Are Looking For A strategic thinker who can balance immediate operational needs with long-term planning Commercially astute and able to align engineering priorities with business objectives An effective people leader who develops capability and accountability within teamsComfortable leading change and driving improvement initiatives Resilient, adaptable and solutions-focused Passionate about safety, compliance and operational excellence Why Join Taylor Preston?
