Kaituitui Mātaitai me te Mahere Whanaungatanga: Mātaitai & Relationship Planner

This role brings together mātauranga Māori, science, and community voice into the Mātaitai Reserve Application and Relationship Plan - the document that will shape kaitiakitanga in this rohe for generations. You'll research, synthesise, and write, translating what's heard at hui and wānanga into a robust, defensible application on behalf of Ngā Hapū o Taranaki Iwi. Key responsibilities Gather and organise scientific, environmental, fisheries, and cultural evidence, working alongside the scientific adviser Work with kaumātua, kaitiaki, and knowledge holders to ensure mātauranga Māori is accurately reflected Produce clear, accessible written summaries of hapū and community feedback after each round of hui and wānanga Lead drafting of the Mātaitai Reserve Application and Relationship Plan, working with the legal adviser on regulatory soundness Provide monthly written progress reports to the Steering Committee About you Strong research, analysis, and synthesis skills across multi-source, technical information Excellent written communication - able to write for both technical and community audiences Ability to translate what is heard at hui into accurate, well-structured written summaries Understanding of tikanga Māori and hapū-based decision-making, or a genuine willingness to learn Familiarity with fisheries legislation or Mātaitai processes is a plus - support and mentoring will be provided About us Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi is the post-settlement iwi authority for Taranaki Iwi, working to advance the collective aspirations of our uri, whānau, hapū, and Iwi across five strategic whenu - guided by our vision, Me tongai harakeke. The Western Taranaki Rāhui Steering Committee holds the kaupapa mandate for Ki Tua.
