Our New Zealand team plays a key role in high-voltage transmission and distribution projects supporting New Zealand’s energy transition. Key Responsibilities The Protection Engineers are responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality design solutions for high-voltage projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and contributing to strategic planning and innovation. Deliver protection designs for substations including calculations, reports, relay settings files, and configurations Peer review designs undertaken by others Perform FATs & SATs using protection relay test sets Contribute to project tender documents Provide technical and construction/commissioning support Liaise with clients as the technical SME Prepare substation secondary designs where required Mentor and train junior engineers What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Experience working with power utilities desirable Experience working on Transpower projects will be highly advantageous Knowledge and understanding of protection fundamentals, protection schemes, and IEC 61850 Experience in fault studies using power system modelling software (e.g. DIgSILENT, PSS®E, ETAP) Experience in relay configuration software (e.g. SEL AcSELerator, DIGSI, etc.) Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively Attention to detail and ability to meet agreed deadlines Work on major transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects across New Zealand and Australia Play a key role in delivering smarter, more sustainable energy infrastructure Competitive salaries reflecting role and experience Access to a national network of industry specialists and best-in-class tools Supportive and collaborative culture where your work makes a difference APD is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
