HR ADVISOR - 12 Month Fixed-Term Opportunity Part-time or Full-time (30 - 37.5 hours per week) This is an on-site position Monday to Friday | Available from Term 3, 2026 About the role Are you an HR professional looking for a varied role where you can make a real impact? As our HR Advisor, you'll work closely with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team, providing practical HR advice and support across the full employee lifecycle. You'll lead recruitment and onboarding, maintain HR systems and records, and contribute to projects that strengthen our workplace. Sommerville School is a specialist school based in Panmure, with satellite classrooms across 15 mainstream schools, a community programme for young adults aged 18-21, and a dedicated Outreach Service. We support students aged 5 to 21 with complex communication, learning, physical, and behavioural needs. Learn more about Sommerville School: https://youtu.be/pw-tMGXBm2s What you’ll be doing Your responsibilities will include: Managing end-to-end recruitment, including interviews, offers, employment agreements, and pre-employment checks. Facilitating onboarding and induction for new employees. Partnering with the Senior Leadership Team to provide HR advice and guidance on policies, procedures, and legislation. Supporting leave administration for designated employee groups. Developing and maintaining HR records, school policies, procedures, and systems in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team. Contributing to HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives. Supporting the Principal with employee relations matters. What we're looking for We're looking for an HR professional who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and builds strong working relationships. The successful applicant will: Have previous experience working in Human Resources. Have a sound understanding of New Zealand employment legislation, including the Children's Act 2014. Have previous experience with recruitment (strongly preferred) Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Build positive working relationships with senior leadership and staff members across the school. Be able to manage competing priorities and work independently. Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, and a practical approach to problem solving. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Why join Sommerville?
