IP Advisor Commercialisation Team Location: Flexible, New Zealand Vacancy Number: 60952 Hours: Permanent Full-time Do you love the world of intellectual property but not the constant pressure of billable hours, client demands, and utilisation targets? Guide IP strategy from discovery through to commercialisation Work with leading researchers on innovative science and technologies What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua As an experienced IP professional, you will help identify, protect, and maximise the value of intellectual assets arising from some of New Zealand’s most exciting science and innovation programmes. Working closely with researchers, project leaders, commercialisation managers, and external patent attorneys, you’ll shape IP strategy, assess inventions, support patent protection decisions, and strengthen our portfolio of intellectual assets. This is an opportunity to focus on the strategic and rewarding aspects of intellectual property in a collaborative environment, helping turn world-class science into real-world impact for New Zealand. Key responsibilities include: Guiding IP strategy from discovery through to commercialisation Developing and implementing intellectual asset management plans Supporting invention disclosures, patentability assessments, and protection strategies Partnering with researchers and project teams to build IP capability and best practice Working with commercialisation teams to maximise the value and impact of IP portfolios Contributing to freedom-to-operate assessments and IP landscape reviews What you will bring | Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako To be successful in this role, you’ll bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in science, intellectual property, business, or a related discipline At least four years’ experience in intellectual property, technology transfer, commercialisation, patent advisory, or related IP‑focused roles Strong knowledge of patents and intellectual asset management processes Experience working with researchers, inventors, patent attorneys, or commercialisation teams The ability to influence, coach, and build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills We welcome applications from experienced IP professionals from private practice, industry, commercialisation, research organisations, or other IP‑focused environments.
