About the Role Join our Facilities and Property team and play an important role in keeping Dunedin Hospital operating safely and efficiently. As a Trades Assistant, you'll provide practical support to our skilled trades team, helping to maintain hospital facilities and grounds while ensuring compliance with essential building and maintenance requirements. This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same. From completing scheduled compliance checks to supporting maintenance activities and grounds upkeep, you'll make a valuable contribution to the smooth running of one of New Zealand's busiest hospitals. Key responsibilities include: Supporting the Facilities and Property trades team with day‑to‑day maintenance activities. Undertaking and recording scheduled owner compliance checks. Assisting with grounds maintenance and rubbish collection. Updating asset condition records. Identifying opportunities to improve maintenance processes and systems. Providing excellent customer service while working with staff, contractors, and other stakeholders. Assisting with other Facilities and Property duties as required. About the Team The Facilities and Property team is responsible for maintaining Health New Zealand's hospital buildings, infrastructure, and grounds across the Southern district. We work behind the scenes to ensure our facilities remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose, supporting our clinical teams to deliver exceptional patient care every day. You’re organised, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. To be successful in this role you’ll have: NCEA Level 2 or equivalent (Level 3 is desirable). A full New Zealand Driver Licence. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks. A proactive, reliable, and flexible approach to work. The ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people. A commitment to health and safety and continuous improvement. Previous experience in hospital facilities, maintenance, or a similar environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
