Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity: We’re looking for an experienced operational people leader to lead the production team at our Mōkai geothermal power station. Mōkai is jointly owned by Tūaropaki Trust and Mercury and has been generating renewable electricity since 2000. The station has expanded over time and is now a significant geothermal operation, with 10 binary turbines and two steam turbines. The geothermal resource also supports Tūaropaki’s wider operations, including milk powder production and temperature-controlled horticulture. This creates a varied operating environment where strong relationships, sound judgement and clear communication are essential. Reporting to the Site Lead, you’ll lead a team of six Shift Production Technicians who operate and optimise the station around the clock. Your focus will be building a trusted, capable and high-performing team that safely delivers reliable generation while meeting customer, market and stakeholder requirements. This is a Monday to Friday position, working approximately 7.30am to 4.00pm. While your team works across a shift roster, you’ll provide consistent day-to-day leadership, manage capability and resourcing, and ensure the team is well supported to deliver safe and effective operations. Tāu e mahi ai | What you’ll be doing: Leading, coaching and developing a team of six Production Technicians Building trust, accountability and engagement across an experienced operational team Ensuring the station is operated safely, reliably and within environmental and regulatory requirements Managing day-to-day operational issues and production requirements Supporting the team to optimise plant availability, performance and generation output Ensuring work controls, isolations and operational procedures are understood and followed Managing shift coverage, competency requirements, succession planning and overtime Leading incident responses, investigations and operational learnings Supporting outage planning, asset management and continuous improvement initiatives Building effective relationships with site teams, contractors, owners, customers and other stakeholders Tā mātou e kimi nei | We are looking for: This role needs an experienced and resilient people leader who can build credibility, bring people with them and create clear expectations. You’ll ideally bring: At least five years’ experience within an operational or heavy-industrial environment Demonstrated experience leading and developing operational or technical teams A relevant trade qualification or tertiary qualification A strong understanding of safe systems of work, work controls, isolations and operational risk The ability to remain calm, make sound decisions and provide direction during operational events Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills A practical interest in plant operations, performance and continuous improvement Previous experience in electricity generation or power station operations would be a strong advantage, particularly if you have held station operator or work control responsibilities. We’re also interested in experienced leaders from complex operational environments such as pulp and paper, dairy manufacturing, processing or other heavy industries. More important is your ability to understand complex plant operations, lead an experienced team and create an environment where people feel trusted, supported and accountable.
