Field Coordinator

Are you an experienced operational lead passionate about conservation and community engagement? We are seeking a dedicated Field Coordinator to join the Mauri Tū Project team. The Field Coordinator plays a central role in a community-driven initiative that is revitalising the Ruahine Ranges. This is a unique hands‑on opportunity to work with iwi, hapū, landowners, and a passionate team of field workers to suppress pests and restore biodiversity. We need someone who is as good with people as they are with operational planning—someone who can lead our field staff, build strong relationships with landowners, and keep our predator trap network running like clockwork. Hours: Approximately 24 hours per week , with flexibility to increase during peak operational periods, monitoring events, and project delivery. Key Responsibilities Coordinate Field Operations: Lead the monthly servicing of predator traps, manage logistics (including helicopter support), and oversee the deployment of new traplines. Operational Supervision: Provide daily supervision, coaching, and induction for staff, volunteers, and contractors to ensure work quality and safety standards are maintained. Ecological Monitoring: Coordinate monitoring programmes and manage accurate data entry into Trap.NZ. Hapū & Community Engagement: Act as a key point of contact for iwi, hapū, landowners, and project partners to ensure smooth operational delivery and access. Health & Safety Leadership: Lead regular toolbox meetings, manage hazard registers, and ensure all site‑specific safety plans are current and strictly followed. Project Administration: Prepare operational reports, maintain project records, and support the continuous improvement of our internal systems. What We’re Looking For To be successful in this role, you will bring: Proven experience coordinating field teams, contractors, or volunteers. Experience in coordinating, multiple‑field based work programmes. A strong background in leading Health and Safety protocols, particularly in remote outdoor environments. Experience preparing accurate operational reports for funding agencies or governance groups. A demonstrated ability to prioritise competing operational demands effectively. About the Mauri Tū Project The Mauri Tū Project is a mana‑whenua led initiative dedicated to restoring biodiversity in the Ruahine Ranges & Lake Whatumā. This landscape‑scale programme manages 40,000 hectares and a network of predator traps to suppress predators. Our efforts are vital to the recovery of taonga species, including whio, kiwi, and the Matuku‑hūrepo (Australasian bittern).
