About the Role As a Smokefree Practitioner within the National Public Health Service, you will provide evidence-based smoking cessation support that empowers individuals and whānau to achieve their smokefree goals and improve their overall wellbeing. Working collaboratively with health services, community providers, and key stakeholders, you will use a holistic, person-centred approach to facilitate behaviour change, deliver health education and support, and connect people with services that meet their needs. This role is focused on achieving equitable health outcomes, particularly for Māori, Pacific communities, and priority populations, while contributing to health promotion, service improvement, and the wider Smokefree vision of Health New Zealand. About the Service The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. About you You are a passionate and people-focused health professional who is committed to improving health outcomes and supporting individuals and whānau to make positive lifestyle changes. You bring strong communication and relationship-building skills, a sound understanding of health promotion and behaviour change, and a genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and culturally safe practice. You thrive in collaborative environments, can work independently, and are motivated by making a meaningful difference in the lives of the communities you serve. You will bring: A recognised health or related tertiary qualification and experience supporting people in a health, community, or wellbeing setting Knowledge of smoking cessation, health promotion, behaviour change, or addiction-related issues Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, health equity, and culturally responsive practice that supports Māori, Pacific peoples, and other priority populations The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, with a full New Zealand driver's licence and willingness to travel across the region Working for Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
