Care | Kia Tika - We care for each other and do the right thing Courage | Kia Māia - We are brave, capable and confident The Notifications and Enquiries Team (NET) plays a critical role in managing notifications and responding to enquiries received by Maritime NZ. A core function of the team is triaging notifications relating to events, incidents and situations, ensuring they are promptly assessed, prioritised, and assigned for an appropriate response. The NET also handles enquiries, supporting Maritime NZ\'s education and engagement efforts and contributing to the delivery of a better regulatory service for stakeholders. Te tūnga | The role The Advisor Notifications and Enquiries plays a key role in ensuring that notifications and enquiries received by Maritime NZ are managed effectively. A key part of the role involves triaging and prioritising notifications guided by operational policy, processes and practice material, consistent with Maritime NZ’s risk-based approach focused on harm prevention. In this role, you will use sound judgement to provide timely, accurate advice in response to stakeholder enquiries, ensuring responses meet quality standards and practice expectations, including across phone and email channels. You will ensure that notifications and enquiries are consistently managed, accurately recorded, and tracked end-to-end. The role requires strong analytical thinking and the ability to ask effective questions to gather the right information to support informed, risk-based decision-making. You will engage confidently and professionally with stakeholders, including in challenging situations, and build effective working relationships across Maritime NZ and with external parties. In addition, you will contribute to continuous improvement, by identifying trends, gaps and opportunities to enhance processes and ways of working. To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You\u2019ll bring sound judgement and be able to work independently and as part of a team, contributing to consistent and high-quality outcomes. Ideally, you will have: Knowledge of how to apply legislation, operational policy, processes and practice material to decision making Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to ask effective questions and apply sound judgement Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including a professional phone manner Confidence in building and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders Ability to manage a high volume of work, prioritise effectively, and perform under pressure A proactive and adaptable mind set, with initiative and a focus on continuous improvement Mental agility, resilience, and strong organisational skills This role may, from time to time, expose the individual to potentially aggressive communications - such as emails or phone calls - as well as to information or images of traumatic incidents, and interaction with individuals affected by traumatic events. Maritime NZ provides training and support to employees exposed to this critical risk. We expect employees to undertake training and familiarise themselves with the relevant processes and the support available to them to manage traumatic events.
