Job Description

Are you an experienced payroll or finance administrator looking for a role where your work makes a real difference? The Anglican Diocese of Nelson is seeking a Payroll & Finance Administrator to join our team at the Anglican Centre in Nelson. This is an opportunity to use your payroll and financial administration skills in a values-based organisation that supports churches, ministries, and communities throughout the top of the South Island. The diocese comprises 24 parishes across Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, Kaikōura and the West Coast, supported by a central team based in Nelson. About the Role Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll and financial processes are completed accurately, confidentially, and on time. You will work closely with diocesan staff, clergy, parish administrators, treasurers, and external stakeholders to provide reliable payroll and finance support across the diocese. Key responsibilities include: Manage the diocese's fortnightly payroll, including payroll processing, payroll administration, statutory Inland Revenue filings, and the review and payment of allowances and employment-related claims. Processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cashbook transactions Preparing electronic payments through the diocese's banking systems Processing journals and assisting with financial reporting Managing finance team inboxes and responding to queries Supporting the wider Finance Team with administrative tasks as required. You will be a highly organised and detail-oriented administrator who takes pride in accuracy and confidentiality. You will ideally have: Experience processing payroll in New Zealand Experience using cloud-based payroll, accounting, or payment systems Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cashbook processing An understanding of basic accounting principles and practice Excellent organisational and time management skills Strong written and verbal communication skills The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people A commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and customer service. Experience working with Xero, iPayroll, and ApprovalMax would be an advantage.
