Subantarctic Expedition Coordinator

Help build enduring systems and capability that reconnect Ngāi Tahu whānui with the Subantarctic Islands and Southern Ocean Murihiku Regeneration, in partnership with the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai, is seeking an experienced and highly organised coordinator to help strengthen Ngāi Tahu participation, leadership and connection within the New Zealand Subantarctic Islands. The Subantarctic Expedition Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of a shared planning and delivery framework for Ngāi Tahu Subantarctic expeditions. This framework will support expeditions to be planned and delivered safely, consistently and in a way that reflects Ngāi Tahu values, tikanga and kawa, while meeting relevant regulatory, operational, health and safety, and biosecurity requirements. Working across Murihiku Regeneration and DOC’s Invercargill offices, you will collaborate with Papatipu Rūnanga, Ngāi Tahu whānui, Te RŤnanga o Ngāi Tahu, DOC, researchers, expedition leaders and other key stakeholders. Key responsibilities Developing practical expedition-planning templates, guidance documents and operational resources Establishing clear planning, approval, communication and reporting processes Supporting health and safety, emergency response, logistics and biosecurity planning Coordinating engagement, hui and workshops with whānau and partner organisations Ensuring resources align with Ngāi Tahu aspirations, DOC procedures and applicable legislation Capturing lessons from previous expeditions to support continuous improvement and long-term capability About you We are looking for someone with strong project coordination, relationship management and written communication skills. Experience in expedition, conservation, environmental, research or field-based programmes would be valuable, along with an understanding of health and safety and remote operational planning. Experience working with DOC, Papatipu Rūnanga, Ngāi Tahu whānui or Māori organisations would be highly advantageous.
