Electrical Engineer

Our Professional & Technical Services Unit provides specialist in‑house survey, design, environmental planning and project delivery expertise for Council. The Mechanical and Electrical team, within the Water and Waste Design team delivers high quality technical advice as well as design solutions and technical reviews of designs for Three Waters infrastructure projects including reservoirs, pump stations, wells, flow meters and pump station electrical controls. About the role | Ko te mahi nei This role is responsible for delivering electrical engineering services as the Electrical Engineer. You will also: Deliver internal electrical engineering services, including expert advice, design solutions, and the review of internal and external designs. Ensure all projects meet relevant standards, legislative requirements and whole‑of‑life asset outcomes through expert technical input and robust quality assurance processes. Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal clients, consultants, contractors and project partners to ensure projects are delivered to time, cost, scope, quality and expected objectives. Be responsible for quality assurance, seek sign‑off of technical drawings, tender documents and reports, for Three Waters infrastructure construction drawings. You are an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong technical expertise, practical project delivery experience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for the community. You apply your engineering knowledge across a range of projects, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and build positive working relationships to achieve sustainable outcomes. What you'll bring: A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), preferably a four-year degree. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and/or professional membership with Engineering New Zealand is an advantage. At least eight years' post-graduate electrical engineering experience, including five years in a similar role within a large or complex organisation. Proven experience designing and reviewing electrical systems and contract documentation for Three Waters infrastructure, including water supply, wastewater, and stormwater assets such as well heads, pumping stations, flow meters, and automated electrical control systems. Strong practical knowledge of low-voltage electrical distribution and control systems. Sound working knowledge of relevant Electrical Codes of Practice, standards, regulations, and statutory requirements. Proven proficiency with engineering and design software, including AutoCAD, along with strong computer literacy and experience using spreadsheet applications. What's in it for you? Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
