We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join at Tupuanuku Hall in University of Canterbury . In this role, you’ll support the Head Chef to prepare, cook and serve high‑quality meals, lead kitchen operations when required, and ensure all food production meets Compass standards and compliance expectations. Your leadership will help deliver consistent, high‑quality food service to our residents and guests. This is a Permanent Full Time Position during education terms. Support the Head Chef and supervise kitchen operations in their absence. Prepare, cook, portion, and present high‑quality meals while maintaining consistency and quality control. Oversee stock management including ordering, receiving, storing, rotating, and minimising waste. Ensure kitchen hygiene, food safety compliance, equipment cleaning, and adherence to all safety procedures. Coach and support team members, contribute to menu planning and event catering, and maintain strong team communication. NZQA Level 4 Cookery qualification (or equivalent) with experience supervising staff in a similar environment. A confident, positive kitchen leader with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach. Reliable, hardworking, physically fit, and committed to high standards of hygiene and presentation. Able to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and efficiency. Motivated, flexible, and eager to continue developing skills and supporting team success.
