THEOLOGY PROGRAMME | MĀTAI WHAKAPONO KARAITIANA About our team | Mō te tīma The University of Otago has marked a significant milestone in the establishment of New Zealand’s first Centre for Creation Care, led by its Mātai Whakapono Karaitiana – Theology programme. The newly established Centre for Creation Care is fully integrated within the Theology Programme and will contribute to the broader teaching, research and community engagement of the Programme as a whole. Alongside theological research and teaching, students will gain hands-on experience through fieldwork and an internship with environmental organisations. Offering courses across a range of qualifications, including a Diploma for Graduates in Creation Care, the Centre will also foster collaboration with other disciplines across the University engaged in research on the care of the environment. The role | Te mahi We are seeking a Lecturer in Creation Care, for a five-year fixed-term appointment, to join the Theology Programme. This is a unique opportunity for an energetic, creative, and committed individual to make a significant contribution in their chosen discipline while being supported by a collegial and dynamic Programme and University. While contributing to the goals and successful operation of the Theology Programme as a whole, you will have responsibility for teaching and research in the area of Creation Care and will contribute to the development and activities of the Centre for Creation Care by advancing its mission through community engagement and public impact. Skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako A PhD completed or in progress in Christian Theology. (Candidates with a PhD in another discipline and an established record of research and practical engagement in Christian approaches to environmental care may also be considered.) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. The following attributes would be advantageous: Experience teaching in tertiary or related settings, including distance delivery. Established relationships with relevant organisations and networks in Aotearoa New Zealand. Experience in applying for and securing research funding through grant applications. Further details | Pūroko This a full-time (1 FTE) position, for a fixed-term of five years from February 2027 to January 2032 based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
