In this role, you will be fully involved in building and maintaining complex data systems and APIs that support meaningful, real-world product outcomes. It is an ideal environment for an engineer who enjoys optimizing performance behind the scenes and working within a supportive, modern cloud ecosystem. Role Details Engagement: Full-Time, Permanent. Location: Auckland-based with a flexible hybrid work model. Core Stack: Python, SQL/PLSQL, and RESTful APIs. Key Responsibilities System Development: Build and maintain production-ready backend systems and high-performing data pipelines. API Integration: Develop and integrate secure RESTful APIs across a variety of internal and external enterprise systems. Database Optimization: Write and optimize complex SQL and PLSQL scripts to support large-scale data operations. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, frontend, and data teams to deliver complete, end-to-end software solutions. Performance Governance: Assist with database tuning, schema design, and live environment performance management. Engineering Standards: Contribute to backend architecture best practices, security protocols, and CI/CD deployment processes. Technical Profile Database & Query Languages: Advanced knowledge of SQL and PLSQL, with a strong capability in database performance tuning. Backend Development: Solid commercial experience delivering backend systems using Python. API Frameworks: Proven skills in API development and integration (REST, JSON, OAuth). Data & Pipelines: Familiarity with database administration principles and ETL/ELT pipelines. DevOps Fundamentals: Routine experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows. Beneficial Criteria Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes). Knowledge of modern data tools like dbt or Apache Airflow.
