The Special Projects Department (SPD) is seeking to appoint a Custodial Supervisor at the Auckland Temple. This permanent full-time position is responsible for leading custodial operations that preserve the beauty, cleanliness, and sacred nature of the temple while ensuring standards established by the First Presidency are consistently achieved. The successful candidate will report to the Temple Facility Manager.

To minimize disruption to Temple operations and patrons, most of the responsibilities associated with this role are performed outside normal business hours. The successful candidate can expect to work daytime hours on Mondays, with evening/ night shifts scheduled from Tuesday to Friday.

  • Three years of custodial maintenance, facilities, or related operational experience

  • One year of supervisory experience leading teams and achieving operational objectives

  • Basic computer skills and confidence using workplace technology and software programs (Microsoft Suite)

  • Ability to regularly move tools and equipment weighing up to 23kg (50lbs)

Preferred

  • Experience working in a temple

  • Degree or certifications in custodial maintenance, facilities management, or a related field

  • Knowledge of custodial equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational challenges

  • Knowledge of specialty cleaning methods for fabrics, stone surfaces, and carpet systems

  • Understanding of custodial supplies, cleaning chemicals, and industry best practices

  • Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations

  • Proof of legal right to work in New Zealand

  • A police background check may be required

  • Lead custodial operations and oversee team performance by providing hands-on support as needed to ensure temple standards are consistently achieved

  • Oversee the delivery of custodial services that preserve the beauty, cleanliness, and reverence of the temple

  • Manage purchasing activities, supplier relationships, and custodial budgets to ensure effective stewardship of resources

  • Develop a custodial team that delivers high performance, accountability, professionalism, and unity

  • Ensure custodial standards established by the First Presidency are achieved and maintained throughout the temple

  • Provide directions on custodial equipment, maintenance programs, cleaning methods, chemicals, and best practices under the guidance of the Temple Facility Manager

  • Conduct routine inspections of temple facilities and proactively identify, report, and follow up on maintenance and repair needs

  • Supervise full-time custodial staff through training, scheduling, work allocation, coaching, and performance management

  • Recruit, train, motivate, and supervise part-time custodians and volunteers to meet operational requirements

  • Typically supervises a team of 5-15 employees and volunteers
