STUDENT - Public Transport Surveys - 1018 Hamilton | Public Transport Operations | Full Time 26.00 - 29.00 NZD per hour Posted 2 weeks ago | Apply before August 9, 2026 Description Mō te tūranga | About the role We are seeking a motivated student/graduate with an interest in public transport, customer insights, data analysis, and community engagement to support the development and delivery of passenger and non-passenger surveys across the Waikato region. This role will support the collection and analysis of feedback from public transport users, potential customers, communities, operators, and stakeholders. The insights generated will help inform service improvements, customer experience initiatives, accessibility outcomes, and patronage growth. To be successful in this role, you will: Support the development, testing, and delivery of public transport passenger and non-passenger surveys. Help collect, clean, organise, and summarise survey responses and customer feedback. Analyse information to identify themes, trends, barriers, opportunities, and customer experience insights. Support reporting by preparing clear summaries, charts, presentations, and insight-based recommendations. Engage professionally and respectfully with members of the public, passengers, non-users, internal teams, operators, and community stakeholders. Contribute to work that supports better public transport access, service improvement, customer satisfaction, and patronage growth. Hamilton-based position, with some fieldwork across the Waikato region as required. You will be someone who is curious, organised, people-focused, and interested in how research and customer feedback can improve public transport services. You will: Enjoy working with people and have an interest in public transport, customer experience, community engagement, planning, data, or service improvement. Be confident communicating with a wide range of people, including passengers, non-passengers, community members, staff, operators, and stakeholders. Have strong written and verbal communication skills. Be comfortable collecting information in public-facing settings and asking survey questions in a professional and respectful way. Have an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy when handling information and data. Be confident working with data, including using Excel or similar tools to organise, clean, analyse, and summarise information. Be able to interpret survey responses, customer feedback, and operational information to identify useful insights. Be willing to work in field-based environments, including bus stops, transport hubs, events, onboard services, or community locations. Be adaptable and able to work under time pressure or in changing field conditions. Have an interest in inclusive engagement, accessibility, equity, and understanding the needs of diverse communities across Waikato. Understand, or be willing to learn about, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Māori in a local government context.
