The Opportunity Our specialist Instrumentation & Metrology team is growing fast, and we are creating a new technician role to grow with it. Demand for our on-site calibration, verification and remedial services is being driven by a rising bar for precision and quality across aerospace, nutraceuticals, chemical processing, food export, pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing . Alongside this, we are expanding rapidly into industrial electromagnetic interference (EMI) investigation and remediation - a highly specialised, high-demand field with no formal training pathway in New Zealand. This is a development-focused role . You do not need to be the finished article. You will begin by delivering supervised calibration and metrology work and by shadowing our lead EMI technician , absorbing hard-won, tacit knowledge that simply cannot be learned from a textbook. Over time you will grow into a confident, and highly valued specialist. We can also support the right candidate through either the NZ Diploma in Applied Science (Metrology) or a Post-graduate degree in Analytical Science (metrology) as relevant. Key Responsibilities Deliver calibration & verification: carry out on-site and in-lab calibration, verification and maintenance of instrumentation and measurement equipment – supervised at first, building to independent delivery. Deliver industrial instrumentation services: we cover the full life-cycle of measurement technology and integration. You won't just be working on the resulting measurement, but become an expert in specification, installation, commissioning, integration, calibration & verification. EMI technician: shadow our lead EMI technician on investigation and remedial work, actively capturing and later documenting the tacit knowledge behind this emerging service. Support our ISO/IEC 17025 QMS: maintain accurate, audit-ready calibration records and documentation, and help build a smart, agile quality system rather than 'stuffy' compliance. Care for reference equipment: maintain, handle and track our reference standards and test equipment so they remain fit for purpose and traceable. Collaborate across the business: work alongside our electrical, automation, hazardous areas and project engineers to help deliver integrated, turnkey solutions to clients. Travel for project & remedial work: be available to work away from home on site-based projects and remedial campaigns as required. Gain your electrical registration: with our full support, complete the Electrical Service Technician (EST) limited registration process to underpin your on-site work. Grow and share: engage with our tradesperson training, then pay it forward by transferring knowledge to peers as you develop. About You We are interested in your trajectory, not just CV. The right person will: Prioritise professional development and learning over immediate earning potential. Have a genuine talent or proclivity for applied science, with strong maths and reasoning skills. Bring a relevant qualification – for example a trade background, an engineering/applied-science diploma or degree, or hands‑on calibration, metrology or instrumentation experience. Be of sound character with a positive attitude, able to manage stress and carry themselves with decorum in front of clients. Have strong stakeholder‑engagement and communication skills, and translating between technical details and human impact. Be available and willing to travel for away-from-home project and remedial work. Be coachable and curious – someone who sees a challenge and starts working towards a solution. Must hold a New Zealand Drivers License. Desirable, not essential: an existing Electrical Service Technician (EST) registration. Exposure to industrial control technologies: PLC, BMS, SCADA, motion control, PID control etc. Experience with calibration, instrumentation, and quality management systems. Health and Safety credentials: confined space & gas detection, working at heights, elevated work platforms, first aid.
