Job Description

Hitools Christchurch is a locally owned supplier of building materials, fasteners and power tools, based in Sockburn. We are looking for a practical, proactive person who wants to build a long-term career in the trade-supply industry. The role starts with delivery and warehouse operations, giving you the opportunity to learn our products, customers and order process from the ground up. As you demonstrate reliability, initiative, product knowledge and customer capability, you can progress into order handling, account support and trade sales. Recent graduates in business, commerce, marketing, construction management, supply chain or related fields are encouraged to apply. Full training will be provided. What you will be doing Delivery and warehouse operations Learn our product range, stock locations, order process and safe handling methods. Pick, check and pack customer orders accurately. Load the company vehicle safely and complete deliveries to building sites and customers around Christchurch. Check the correct order, delivery location and handover at each delivery. Receive incoming stock, put it away correctly and keep stock and order areas organised. Operate a forklift as required. Forklift training and certification will be arranged and paid for by Hitools Christchurch if needed. Keep the warehouse and delivery vehicle clean, safe and ready for use. Perform other ad hoc duties as required. Customer service and sales development Provide a professional handover at each delivery and pass customer questions, feedback and product needs back to the team. Once trained and confident with the products, assist with phone and counter enquiries, enter orders accurately and suggest suitable products. Build positive working relationships with builders, tradespeople and other customers. Sales initiative is welcome and rewarded, but you will not be expected to carry a sales target from day one. Commission is available on eligible new business you personally introduce under an agreed arrangement. What we are looking for Interested in building a long-term career in trade sales and willing to learn the business from the ground up. Reliable, punctual and willing to take responsibility for getting the details right. Proactive - notices what needs doing and gets on with it. A full, clean New Zealand driver licence and a safe, sensible approach on the road. Comfortable with repeated physical work and safely handling products weighing up to 25kg. Careful with quantities, product codes, paperwork and delivery instructions. Practical problem-solving ability and the confidence to work independently once trained. A clear and respectful communicator who listens, asks useful questions and passes information on accurately. Communicates patiently and respectfully across cultural and language differences. Experience in, or a genuine interest in, residential construction, building materials or trade supplies. Comfortable working closely in a small team where priorities sometimes change. Legally entitled to work in New Zealand. Warehouse, delivery, trade-supply or customer-facing experience is useful but not essential. Practical and proactive attitude, reliability, initiative and learning ability matter more to us. Pay, hours and development Location: Sockburn, Christchurch Employment: Full-time or part-time options available Hours: Approximately 30-40 hours per week Normal schedule: Monday to Friday, generally 7:30am-3:00pm Pay: $24-$30 per hour, depending on relevant experience and demonstrated capability There is no regular overtime. Occasional Saturday work may be offered by agreement. A company vehicle is provided for work-related deliveries. Responsibilities and pay will be reviewed as your capability grows across delivery, warehouse operations, order handling and customer support. Progression will depend on demonstrated performance and the needs of the business. Commission is available on eligible new business you personally introduce.
