About Te Anua Nua Trust Te Anua Nua Trust is a Manurewa-based non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful, independent lives. We provide person-centred residential and community support that upholds the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of whānau/residents. Our work focuses on building life skills, encouraging independence, and creating inclusive opportunities so people can actively participate in their communities and achieve positive life outcomes. About the role of Support Workers We have three full-time opportunities for Support Workers to provide safe, respectful, and person-centred support to whānau/residents, assisting them with daily living while promoting independence, choice, and overall wellbeing. Our Community Support Workers provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As such, successful applicants will work any one of the following shifts (6am–2pm), afternoons (2pm–10pm), awake nights (10pm–6am), and/or sleepover shifts with a request for flexibility when needed. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates regardless of gender. Due to the personal care and privacy needs of some people we support, applications from male candidates are particularly encouraged for this role but not limited. Key Responsibilities Support whānau/residents with daily living tasks, including personal care, meal preparation, household duties, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Encourage and support participation in community, cultural, and social activities. Follow individual support plans to meet the specific needs, goals, and preferences of each person. Promote independence by supporting life skills development (e.g., budgeting, cooking, personal routines). Administer medication and follow health care plans as required (if trained and authorised). Observe and report any changes in behaviour, health, or wellbeing. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily notes and incident reports. Work collaboratively as part of a team, taking direction from Senior Support Workers and contributing to positive shift handovers. Ensure health and safety practices are followed, including identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, or risks. Uphold the rights, dignity, privacy, and cultural values of all whānau/residents at all times. Requirements Previous experience in disability support, healthcare, or caregiving (preferred but not essential). Relevant qualification (e.g.Level 3–4 Health and Wellbeing or willingness to work towards). Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain). Full NZ Driver Licence. Ability to pass Police Vetting and relevant background checks. Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepovers if required. Good written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting. Key Attributes Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach. Reliable and flexible, with a willingness to work varied shifts.
