Mental Health Nurse Lead

You will provide comprehensive mental health nursing support through assertive community outreach as a Mental Health Nurse Lead - Outreach with Te Whare Mauri Ora, an integrated homelessness and rough sleeping outreach service. This is not a clinic-based role. You will take mental health services directly to people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, trauma, addiction, and social exclusion across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will combine clinical mental health nursing expertise, trauma-informed care, Kaupapa Māori practice, and housing-focused support to help whānau move from crisis to stability. Your work will take you into the community, including streets and public spaces, emergency and transitional housing, supported accommodation, marae, community hubs, and outreach locations across Tauranga Moana and the Western Bay. Key responsibilities Mental health and psychosocial assessments Crisis intervention and risk assessment Trauma-informed therapeutic support Medication support and monitoring Recovery and wellness planning Harm reduction interventions Collaborative safety planning Multidisciplinary case coordination About you Registration as a Registered Nurse A current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate Mental health nursing scope of practice Community mental health or outreach experience Crisis assessment and intervention skills Trauma-informed practice experience A full New Zealand driver licence Monthly clinical supervision Professional and Personal development allowance Reflective practice and multidisciplinary learning The opportunity to help build an innovative Kaupapa Māori outreach service Note: Applications will be reviewed promptly upon receipt until a suitable candidate is found.
