Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners – Wellington Central, North Island The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (the College) is a membership organisation and a medical college that provides post-graduate training for doctors wanting to specialise in general practice and rural hospital medicine. Our 80+ operational staff support our 6,000 members with an aim to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities. About the Role Engineers at the College are generalists by design. You will move fluidly across systems analysis, software development, data integration, and automation contributing across the full delivery lifecycle without fixed boundaries between disciplines. You bring a product mindset: thinking in outcomes, contributing to requirements and backlog conversations, and making considered build-vs-buy decisions. You build with security in mind, handle member data with care, and understand the governance obligations that come with operating in a health-adjacent sector. You are also genuinely interested in how AI and automation are reshaping engineering practice and you apply that knowledge practically. What you'll do: Analyse systems, integrations, and data flows; translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable, maintainable architectures aligned with the College's technology strategy and governance standards Contribute to build-vs-buy evaluations and own system documentation, integration maps, data dictionaries, and technical design artefacts Design, develop, test, and deploy robust solutions across front‑end and back‑end contexts in Python, Node.js, TypeScript, PowerShell, and Java; build and maintain integrations across M365, Windows, CRM, LMS, and member systems via RESTful and GraphQL APIs Manage Azure DevOps pipelines, CI/CD workflows, and shared libraries; develop and maintain data pipelines, transformation workflows, and SQL across relational databases Govern data flows and reporting feeds in line with Privacy Act obligations and the College's data governance standards; identify and resolve data quality issues at source Apply secure‑by‑design principles across all work; participate in code and architecture reviews with a security lens Identify and implement AI‑enabled tooling opportunities across engineering and business workflows; evaluate and integrate platforms including Copilot, Power Automate, and API‑driven AI services Designs, implements, and continuously improves AI‑assisted workflows within their function to reduce cycle time and manual effort while maintaining quality, privacy, security, and cultural safety requirements Establishes and tracks agreed workflow metrics for AI‑assisted processes, and reports improvements through governance channels. What you'll bring Proficiency across systems analysis and software development, with the ability to lead others through complex and ambiguous technical problems Strong coding ability across Python, Node.js, TypeScript, PowerShell, and Java; expert SQL and relational database skills Solid‑level Microsoft platform knowledge: M365, Windows, Azure (Functions, Logic Apps, Entra ID, Key Vault), and the Power Platform Strong API design and integration capability - REST and GraphQL, OAuth, token‑based authentication, performance and security at scale Deep experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and establishing engineering standards in a team context Security and data governance knowledge applied in practice, including Privacy Act obligations in a data‑sensitive environment Advanced use of AI‑assisted development tools and a clear, evidence‑based perspective on how AI is reshaping engineering practice.
