Environmental Monitoring Assistant

We're looking for a Environmental Monitoring Officer to join our Operations team and play a vital role in ensuring our water services remain safe, compliant, and sustainable. This is an exciting opportunity to work across drinking water, wastewater and environmental monitoring programmes, providing technical expertise that supports operational excellence and regulatory compliance. About the Role Reporting to the Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer, you'll coordinate monitoring programmes, oversee sampling and laboratory processes, analyse technical data, and ensure Council meets its environmental and regulatory obligations. Working closely with operational teams, contractors, regulators and partner agencies, you'll help maintain the integrity of our monitoring systems while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. What You'll Be Doing As our Environmental Monitoring Officer, you will: Coordinate environmental and water quality monitoring programmes and sampling schedules. Manage sampling contracts and oversee laboratory results. Monitor compliance with resource consents and regulatory requirements. Prepare technical reports and compliance submissions. Analyse monitoring data, SCADA information and sampling results to identify trends, risks and opportunities. Maintain and calibrate monitoring equipment and instrumentation. Provide technical advice, guidance and training to staff and contractors. Support investigations, operational improvements and service delivery. Maintain monitoring documentation, procedures and asset information. Assist during emergency events when required. About You You’ll enjoy working with technical data, solving problems and contributing to the delivery of high-quality water services. You're organised, analytical and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. You’ll also bring: A Diploma in Environmental Science or a related discipline. At least two years' experience in environmental monitoring, laboratory operations or a similar technical field. Knowledge of Drinking Water Standards, Water Services Regulations or environmental compliance requirements. Experience managing and maintaining monitoring equipment and measuring devices. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong computer literacy. Experience using GIS and associated databases. Excellent analytical, research and report writing skills. Strong communication and relationship-building abilities. A practical, solution-focused approach with excellent organisational skills. A commitment to continuous learning and excellent customer service. A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence. Why Join Us?
