About the role The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a key role in improving health outcomes for children and their whānau across the MidCentral rohe. This advanced practice role combines expert clinical care, leadership, education, and service development to support excellence in child health services. A central component of the role is the delivery of nurse-led clinics for children with eczema and asthma, providing specialist assessment, education, treatment, and ongoing support. Working in partnership with children, families, and whānau, you will identify and address the health and social factors that influence wellbeing, ensuring care is holistic, equitable, and family-centred. You will work across the paediatric continuum in both primary and secondary care settings, building capability within the workforce, strengthening care pathways, and promoting evidence-based practice. Key responsibilities include: Delivering nurse-led eczema and asthma clinics. Providing specialist assessment, intervention, education, and follow-up care. Supporting children and whānau with complex health and social needs. Building clinical capability across primary and secondary care. Providing clinical leadership, consultation, and education. Supporting quality improvement initiatives and service development. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community partners to improve outcomes for children and young people. About you To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced child health nurse with a commitment to delivering high-quality, whānau-centred care and improving outcomes for children and young people. You will have: Current Nursing Council of New Zealand registration and a valid Annual Practising Certificate. A minimum of five years' experience as a Registered Nurse, including at least two years within the relevant specialty area. Demonstrated experience in child health or paediatric nursing. A relevant Master's degree in Health, or be actively working towards completion. Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills. A commitment to culturally safe, equitable, and family-centred care. Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills. A passion for quality improvement, education, and service development. About the Team/Service Our team is a multidisciplinary team that is community facing but works across the paediatric continuum. The Clinical Nurse Specialist role will work alongside the other nursing and social work members of the Child Health Community team. .
