Job Description
– Western Bay of Plenty District, North Island Puregold Orchards Limited is is seeking two experienced and motivated Horticulture Outdoor Crop Leading Hands to join our orchard operations in the Bay of Plenty. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising orchard staff and ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of kiwifruit orchards while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and health and safety. The Horticulture Outdoor Crop Leading Hand will be responsible for: Supervising orchard workers during pruning, thinning, harvesting, and other seasonal operations. Coordinating daily work schedules and allocating tasks to ensure productivity targets are achieved. Assisting with spraying, irrigation, fertiliser application, and general orchard maintenance. Monitoring crop health and promptly reporting pest, disease, or quality issues to the Site Manager. Ensuring all staff comply with health and safety policies, orchard procedures, and standard operating practices. Training and mentoring new employees in orchard techniques, safe work practices, and equipment operation. Maintaining accurate daily work records and assisting with operational reporting. Operating orchard machinery and equipment when required and carrying out routine maintenance checks. Supporting orchard operations during peak seasonal periods and performing other related horticultural duties as required. Skills and Experience Applicants must have either: A minimum of 2 years' relevant horticulture or orchard supervisory experience , or A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Horticulture or a related field. The successful applicant should have: Strong leadership and communication skills. Good knowledge of orchard operations and health and safety requirements. The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. A strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work as part of a team. What We Offer Competitive pay of $32.00 to $37.00 per hour , depending on skills and experience. Full-time, ongoing employment with a minimum of 30 hours per week. Supportive team environment.
