About the role This is a hands on technical role focused on 3D scanning, digital mesh repair, and 3D printing to support automotive repairs. As the primary Design Engineer for the North Island, you will build and maintain a national digital parts library while providing technical support across multiple sites. Day to day work is largely focused on high volume scanning for repair of automotive components (headlights, bumpers, etc). The role also includes creating new CAD models from scratch when required (jigs, fixtures, spacers, sensor housings, and other tools). This is a field based, service-oriented position with regular travel across the North Island. Key responsibilities Perform daily 3D scanning of automotive components (headlights, bumpers, etc) to reconstruct broken or missing sections. Create new CAD models from scratch when required (jigs, fixtures, spacers, sensor housings, and other workshop tools) Build, organise, and maintain the national digital parts library Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers across Auckland and North Island sites Process scan data and prepare accurate 3D printable part files Provide onsite technical support and training to staff Travel to AMI MotorHub / AMI HomeHub branches and external sites as required Work under a responsive, service-based model following company standards and SOPs About you Trade or industry background with proven hands-on experience in relevant technologies or mechanical engineering qualification with strong practical workshop floor experience, or demonstrated self-taught / hobby experience in 3D scanning, mesh repair, 3D printing and CAD supported by a clear portfolio of real work Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or Onshape Some experience with 3D scanning and mesh-based repair workflows such as Blender or Geomagic (Geomagic Design X Go training provided) Experience with additive manufacturing / 3D printing Comfortable with daily, high-volume 3D scanning and mesh repair work as well as creating new parts from scratch when required Willing and able to travel across the North Island Self-driven and capable of working independently across multiple sites Comfortable in a hands on, field based / workshop floor environment Able to demonstrate real-world application of skills (portfolio or project examples welcome) Opportunity to grow a national additive manufacturing capability Hands-on role combining digital workflows and practical repair work Weekly sprint reviews, quarterly goal setting, and annual performance reviews Equal opportunity employment.
