Truck Driver / Labourer

Modern Construction Ltd – Hamilton, North Island Modern Construction Ltd is a well-established, privately owned construction company that has been operating in Hamilton for over 50 years We are seeking a reliable and experienced Truck Driver / Factory Labourer to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis . This is a varied, hands-on role that combines truck driving with factory labouring duties. Reporting to the Factory Foreman, you will be responsible for the safe transport of structural steel, including general deliveries and collections from suppliers, customers, and project sites throughout the Waikato region. The successful candidate will be confident and experienced in loading, unloading, securing, and transporting structural steel products. You will be comfortable carrying out load restraint procedures, including the use of chains, straps, and other securing systems, ensuring all loads are safely secured and compliant with transport regulations. You will also assist with loading and offloading trucks using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment (where licensed and authorised), while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace health and safety. When driving duties are not required, you will work within our factory assisting with a range of general labouring tasks, including drilling, grinding, buffing, painting, material handling, housekeeping, and supporting the production team as required. This role would suit a practical, physically fit individual who enjoys a combination of driving and hands-on factory work, takes pride in their work, and can operate effectively both independently and as part of a team. Skills and Experience Required To be successful in this role, you will: Hold a full, clean Class 4 New Zealand driver's license Have experience in the structural steel, construction, or engineering industry (preferred) Be able to follow instructions accurately and work independently when required Maintain accurate written records and documentation Have a sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements Be a team player with a positive attitude Be physically fit and capable of carrying out manual labour tasks Working Hours Monday – Friday: 7:00am – 3:30pm Minimum 40 hours per week Maximum 53 hours per week Overtime rates apply after 40 hours per week Remuneration $31.00 – $33.00 per hour , depending on experience Overtime paid after 40 hours per week Why Join Modern Construction Ltd?
