Health and Safety Contractor

Fred Recruitment Pte Ltd – Auckland, North Island My client is a specialist in their field with a strong presence both here in New Zealand and internationally. As one of the leading providers in their industry, they are continuing to grow and are now looking for a Health & Safety contractor to become an extension of their team. This isn't a full time job and it isn't intended to be. This is a long term contracting opportunity, ideal for someone already supporting other businesses who is looking to secure another consistent client. What you'll be doing Working closely with the National Operations Manager, you'll help maintain the business's current Health & Safety processes running smoothly. Existing policies, systems and processes are already in place, so your focus will be on maintaining these, providing practical support and making sure everything stays on track as the business continues to grow. This is a varied role that combines practical Health & Safety advice with plenty of coordination and administration. Around half of your time will be spent maintaining documentation, following up outstanding actions, coordinating audits and keeping a close eye on compliance activities to make sure they are completed and up to date. Your responsibilities will include: Providing practical advice and support to managers, external contractors and employees Maintaining existing Health & Safety systems, policies and documentation Coordinating workplace audits and following up corrective actions Supporting incident investigations and risk assessments Coordinating Health & Safety training and toolbox talks Conducting occasional workplace inspections and site visits Monitoring compliance with New Zealand Health & Safety legislation Working alongside the National Operations Manager to keep Health & Safety activities organised and running smoothly So, who are you? You're someone who enjoys working with people just as much as working with processes. You're organised, proactive and happy rolling up your sleeves to keep Health & Safety activities moving. The key part here is you are already operating as an independent contractor (or set up to do so) and you are looking to add another long term client to your portfolio. Ideally, you will have experience and knowledge of the trades, fuel or service industries, giving you a practical understanding of operational workplaces. You will bring: Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within New Zealand Sound knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation Experience conducting audits, investigations and site inspections A practical background within trades, fuel or service industries Strong communication and relationship building skills The ability to work independently while becoming a trusted extension of the leadership team Strong organisation and attention to detail The dream situation would see you based in Auckland, however I am also open to speaking with experienced contractors located elsewhere in New Zealand who can still effectively support the business when required. Why you'll want this opportunity This role has been designed with contractors in mind. You will receive a retainer of 10 hours per week, with the flexibility for this to increase to around 18 hours during busier periods. Some weeks may require less time, others a little more, allowing you to maintain the flexibility that comes with running your own business.
