Job Description

Roslyn Pharmacy is looking for an experienced HR professional to take genuine ownership of our People & Culture function. This is a flexible, hands‑on role supporting a team of approximately 28 employees in a well‑established, independently owned Dunedin pharmacy. You will work closely with the owners and managers, but you will be expected to actively manage the HR work—not simply provide advice and leave the implementation to others. The role As our team has grown, our HR requirements have become more complex and time‑consuming. We are now seeking a capable and practical People & Culture professional who can bring structure, consistency and confidence to the way we manage our people. This is a broad generalist role covering employee relations, recruitment, performance management, HR systems, documentation and manager support. It would suit an experienced HR Manager, HR Business Partner or Senior HR Adviser seeking flexible, meaningful work with genuine influence. We anticipate approximately 8–12 hours per week initially, including regular on‑site time at Roslyn Pharmacy. Some work may be completed remotely. We are open to either a permanent part‑time arrangement or a genuine independent contracting arrangement for the right person. Key responsibilities Take practical ownership of Roslyn Pharmacy’s day‑to‑day HR function Maintain employment agreements, variations, job descriptions and confidential employee records Manage recruitment, candidate screening, reference checks, offers, onboarding and off‑boarding Support managers with performance, conduct, attendance and capability matters Prepare meeting invitations, performance plans, outcome letters and other employment documentation Coach managers before difficult conversations and attend formal meetings where appropriate Receive and triage employee concerns, complaints and workplace conflict Maintain HR policies, review dates, training records and professional registration information Develop practical HR systems, templates and reporting Provide a concise monthly People & Culture update to the owners Support workforce planning, manager development and workplace culture Identify when specialist employment‑law advice or an independent investigation is required About you You will be an experienced and confident HR generalist who combines sound judgement with a practical, commercially aware approach. You will ideally have Experience working in a New Zealand HR or employment‑relations environment Strong practical knowledge of New Zealand employment law and fair process Experience supporting an SME, owner‑operated business or similar workplace Confidence managing performance, conduct, absenteeism and employee‑relations matters Excellent written communication and documentation skills Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to handle confidential information The ability to work independently and follow matters through to completion Strong relationship‑management and manager‑coaching skills Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, retail or another regulated environment would be an advantage. HRNZ membership or accreditation would also be welcomed.
