We're one of New Zealand's most iconic tourism experiences, running heritage rail journeys through the spectacular Taieri Gorge and Coastal routes, and welcoming thousands of guests each year. We're looking for a Health, Safety & Quality Advisor to keep our health and safety and quality systems current, accurate and audit ready across our train, track and workshop sites. This is a hands on, practical role for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity and helping operational teams do things well and do them safely. No two days are the same. This is a role that spans strategy and the ftontline, from strengthening the systems that keep us compliant and audit ready, through to being out among the crews where good practice is lived every day. About the role Reporting to the General Manager, Delivery & Experience, you'll own and maintain our health and safety and quality assurance systems and support our operational leaders to focus on delivery by keeping compliance current, well documented and continuously improving. Your work will include: Owning and maintaining the Health and Safety Management System, including registers, procedures and documentation Coordinating and supporting external audits, including NZTA compliance audits, and keeping us audit ready year round Developing and maintaining our quality assurance framework, SOPs and process standards, and driving continuous improvement Leading investigation and reporting for minor incidents and near misses, and supporting investigations into notifiable events using structured methodology such as ICAM or RCA Preparing regular health, safety and quality reporting for management and the Board, using meaningful lead and lag indicators Act as lead for the H&S Committee, coordinating H&S training and inductions, and building the capability of our H&S Representatives Maintaining a visible, supportive presence across trains, track and workshop, and helping operational leaders embed safe and consistent practices in their teams This role is based in Dunedin, with regular movement between our sites. About you You'll be organised, practical and action oriented, with a real eye for detail and a genuine interest in helping people work safely and well. You'll also bring: Experience maintaining health and safety systems, registers and documentation within an operational business Experience preparing for and supporting internal and external audits Working knowledge of obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, or the ability to build this quickly Experience in quality assurance, process improvement or operational compliance Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports for management or governance audiences Confidence with Office365 and digital records and document management systems A current New Zealand driver's licence and willingness to move between sites as part of the role The following would be an advantage, though they're not essential: A qualification in health and safety, quality management or a comparable discipline Training or experience in incident investigation methodology such as ICAM or RCA Knowledge of the regulatory and licensing obligations that apply to visitor attractions, transport or other compliance heavy operations Experience working in a busy operational or guest facing environment such as tourism, transport or hospitality Experience managing contractor inductions and compliance Above all, you'll understand that every role contributes to the guest experience, and you'll balance compliance and safety with a practical, guest focused approach.
