Job Description
Tony's Tyre & Auto Care – Hamilton, North Island You’ve learned this industry the only way that really counts — hands‑on, under the hood, on the tools. Now it's time to run it. You’ve spent years under the hood, diagnosing problems, keeping customers on the road and probably fixing a few things others never even noticed were broken. You know what good looks like in a workshop. The question is: are you ready to be the one who builds it? The Role This is a full leadership position with real commercial accountability — sales targets, P&L, rostering and compliance. You'll lead a small team, and you'll have the autonomy to run the store your way, backed by a national network that's built to help you succeed. You don't need a business degree or a manager title on your CV to be right for this. What you need is the instinct that comes from years on the tools, the respect of a team who can tell when someone's the real deal, and the drive to learn the commercial side. We'll teach you the rest. You'll Be Responsible For Driving store performance — sales targets, profitability, budgets and reporting Leading, coaching and developing a team who'll respect that you've actually done the job Delivering an exceptional customer experience and building lasting customer relationships Managing inventory, stock control and store presentation to company standards Ensuring full health, safety and compliance across the store Conducting performance reviews and keeping your team on a clear development pathway Identifying opportunities that keep our customers’ vehicles safer and more reliable What You'll Bring A trade background as a mechanic or other automotive/dealership professional, with a relevant trade qualification — workshop, mobile, fleet or dealership experience all count. A current WOF Inspector's Certificate is an added advantage A track record of being the person others go to — informally leading, mentoring apprentices, or running the floor when the boss is out Confidence (or the willingness to build it) around numbers — budgets, targets, reporting A genuine interest in people — you'd rather build a strong team than just be the best tech in the room A full, clean NZ Driver's Licence No prior management title? That's fine. Plenty of our best Store Managers started exactly where you are now — on the tools, wondering if they had what it takes. If you've already got the credibility with a team, we can teach you the commercial skills. How We Set You Up To Succeed A structured onboarding and leadership development pathway — not a case of “figure it out” Ongoing hands‑on support from your Regional Manager in your first months, especially on the financial and reporting side Ongoing access to Tony's Tyres' training network as you grow into the role What We Offer A competitive salary package of $85,000 - $95,000pa + profit share scheme + company vehicle + healthcare The autonomy to lead your store and build your team your way Genuine career development and progression opportunities within our wider national network A supportive network of regional and national leadership behind you Great staff discounts and family buying privileges on tyres and servicing A company that backs its people — in training, in resources and in recognition Why Tony's Tyres? Tony's Tyres has been keeping Kiwi drivers safely on the road since 1982. That means the security of a trusted, well‑established name backed by a national network, with the feel of a local team that genuinely cares about the people in it. We promote from within, and we mean it. A lot of our current Store Managers started out exactly where you are — on the tools, wondering if leadership was even on the table for someone like them. It was. It still is. Ready to Make the Move? If you’ve got the respect of the workshop and you’re ready to build a team instead of just being part of one, we want to hear from you. At Tony's Tyres we prioritise a safe and healthy environment for both our team and our customers. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre‑employment medical and drug test. All applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. #J-18808-Ljbffr
