Crane Association of New Zealand - Auckland, North Island Managing Director - Port & Crane Academy of New Zealand Strategic leadership | Vocational education | Industry-led training Salary: $180,000-200,000 per annum Location: Flexible, with travel throughout New Zealand as required The Port & Crane Academy of New Zealand (PCANZ) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Managing Director to lead the organisation through its next stage of development and growth. PCANZ is an industry-owned training provider delivering practical, work-based learning for New Zealand’s ports and crane industries. Reporting to the PCANZ Chairperson and Board, the Managing Director will provide strategic leadership while maintaining oversight of the organisation’s day-to-day operations, programme delivery, regulatory compliance and financial performance. The role As Managing Director, you will: Provide strategic leadership to achieve the Board’s vision and support PCANZ’s continued growth. Lead the day-to-day operations and effective delivery of work-based learning programmes across New Zealand. Maintain compliance with NZQA quality assurance requirements, TEC funding obligations and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements. Oversee programme quality, assessment and moderation systems, continuous improvement and the Quality Management System. Lead the development and implementation of new qualifications, programmes and funding opportunities aligned with industry needs. Support and lead the Learning Operations Partner, Learning & Assessment Partners, workplace assessors and other contractors. Build trusted relationships with employers, industry associations, shareholders, NZQA, TEC, regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders. Monitor organisational, financial, programme and learner performance and provide clear strategic advice and reporting to the Board. Promote a positive learner experience, with appropriate support available from enrolment through to programme completion. Identify opportunities to grow enrolments, expand partnerships and strengthen PCANZ’s reputation across the ports and crane industries. About you You will bring extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s vocational education system, particularly NZQA quality assurance, assessment and moderation, TEC funding and work-based learning. Ideally, you will also have: Senior leadership experience within a private training establishment, industry training organisation, work-based learning provider or similar environment. Strong knowledge of NZQA registration, programme approval, accreditation, self-assessment and external quality assurance requirements. Experience leading programme development, quality systems and continuous improvement. Sound financial, risk management and organisational performance capability. Experience working with a governance Board and providing high-quality strategic advice and reporting. A proven ability to build strong relationships across industry, employers, government agencies and regulatory bodies. A practical, collaborative leadership style suited to a small and evolving organisation. Excellent communication, judgement and organisational skills. You will be strategic and commercially aware, while remaining prepared to work across the operational detail required to lead a developing national training organisation.
