Job Description

We are a large, lively, community focused local pub known for classic hearty meals, genuine kiwi hospitality and a loyal local following. We have accommodation, a bottle store, 100 seater restaurant and bar, garden, a small function room, gaming and betting facilities. Our kitchen serves around 1400 meals per week over 7 days and The Plough Hotel is open 11am-late, 363 days per year. The Plough Hotel caters for many large groups both in the restaurant and the bar and we sponsor many local sports teams and events. The pub has been on site for over 160 years so is well known in Canterbury. Our customers range from 1-100 years and we truly believe we can keep everyone happy. We are looking for an energetic, hands-on manager to join our management team to help lead our floor and bar team to keep our great reputation and good vibes flowing. You will work alongside the owners and our bar and restaurant managers to ensure all shifts have a strong team rostered on. You will be involved in the running of the bar and dining areas at times, and working alongside our other managers at other times. Our focus is super friendly service and of course the customer always comes first. We expect the customer to be greeted the moment they step through the door into our welcoming, warm atmosphere. Another focus is a healthy, positive and supportive team atmosphere with good communication among owners, managers and staff. You will be expected to come to work on time in a positive mood, focus 100% on the job, then go home to enjoy your days off and own hobbies. Rosters are done in advance and we encourage everyone to take time off and holidays. This position could be part time or full time for the right applicant with hours from 20-35 per week. You will certainly need: a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a fast paced hospitality management role, and preferably a current Duty Managers Certificate. Previous experience working with gaming is a bonus; Strong leadership and communication skills with a positive, hands on attitude. You will need to impress us before being handed responsibility; The ability to handle POS systems to ensure accuracy with stock; Knowledge and experience to ensure strict compliance with the sale and supply of liquor and work with other managers to create a safe drinking environment; Excellent problem solving abilities as The Plough Hotel is a big old place and things do break or fail; The ability to help train and motivate a large group of staff and lead from the front; Build relationships with regulars and resolve any customer issues with a calm, friendly and professional approach; Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, with strong physical stamina and reliance to handle late nights and a fast paced work environment; To be able to move kegs and stock as required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
