Lead a Team Helping Kiwis Prepare for Retirement This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced financial services professional who enjoys developing people, improving client outcomes and remaining actively involved in financial coaching. You will lead and support a team of Retirement Coaches while maintaining your own client portfolio. The position combines people leadership, technical coaching, client relationship management, retirement planning, compliance and commercial performance. The Retirement Coaching function combines financial guidance with relationship-focused support, helping clients understand their options, make informed decisions and take practical steps toward their retirement goals. About the Role As the Retirement Coach Team Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring clients receive a consistent, high-quality experience throughout their retirement planning journey. You will: Lead, coach and develop a team of Retirement Coaches Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentoring Support the team to achieve client, conversion, referral and performance targets Act as the first point of escalation for complex client situations Monitor performance and identify individual development opportunities Maintain your own portfolio of clients Help improve Retirement Coaching frameworks, processes and client outcomes Ensure advice is delivered consistently and in line with regulatory and compliance requirements The role is designed for someone who wants to lead others without stepping away completely from clients or financial coaching. Lead and Develop the Team You will provide clear direction, regular coaching and practical support to help the team perform at its best. Your leadership responsibilities will include: Holding regular team and individual performance discussions Coaching team members across technical advice, client engagement and commercial outcomes Supporting the team to achieve conversion, referral and meeting targets Helping employees improve productivity and embrace change Providing technical support on challenging client situations Monitoring performance and supporting personal development Working with senior leaders to improve systems, frameworks and processes Contributing to wider business targets and strategy Maintain Your Own Client Portfolio Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will continue working directly with clients. You will guide clients through their financial journey, from the initial consultation through to the implementation and ongoing review of their retirement plans. Client conversations may cover: KiwiSaver strategies Managed funds and investments Cashflow planning Retirement income goals Insurance considerations Financial modelling and analysis Wealth accumulation strategies Barriers preventing clients from achieving their goals Referrals to specialist financial partners You will adapt your communication style to different client personalities, simplify complex financial information and provide the motivation and support clients need to take action. Advice Quality and Compliance You will play an important role in ensuring advice delivered by both you and your team is consistent, client-focused and appropriately documented. This will include: Maintaining high advice-quality standards Supporting compliance with Financial Advice Provider requirements Reviewing complex advice conversations Ensuring client recommendations are clearly documented Identifying training and technical development needs Keeping professional development and industry knowledge up to date Supporting continuous improvement across the advice process You will help create an environment where strong commercial performance and quality client outcomes are equally important. What You'll Bring Strong knowledge of financial services Experience in financial advice, wealth management or financial coaching Proven people leadership, mentoring or team development experience Experience within a sales or performance-focused environment Understanding of KiwiSaver, managed funds and retirement planning Strong relationship-building and communication skills The ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly Confidence managing complex client situations Commercial awareness and experience working toward measurable targets Understanding of advice quality, compliance and regulatory requirements Strong organisational and problem-solving skills An empathetic, professional and customer-first approach Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment The successful person will be able to influence others, shape performance, lead change and create an inclusive environment where employees can continue developing.
