About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga This is a rare opportunity to apply advanced scientific judgement to complex regulatory challenges that directly protect New Zealand's public health, trade, and primary industries. As a Senior Adviser in (Anti-Microbial Resistance) AMR Technical & Assessments, you will lead rigorous evaluations of veterinary medicines and agricultural compounds, ensuring controls are fit-for-purpose in managing antimicrobial resistance risks and aligned with New Zealand's national AMR strategy. You will: Evaluate complex scientific data on veterinary medicines and compounds Apply risk management principles under the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) Act framework Prepare high-quality regulatory reports and recommendations Provide clear, timely AMR regulatory advice across MPI Identify emerging AMR risks and inform future regulatory approaches About You - Mōu You are a confident, curious scientific professional who enjoys translating complex evidence into pragmatic regulatory decisions. You bring strong analytical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines, sectors, and government to deliver outcomes that matter for Aotearoa New Zealand. You will bring: A relevant science degree in veterinary, agricultural, biological or chemical sciences Experience assessing veterinary medicines or similar regulated products Strong capability analysing scientific data within regulatory frameworks Clear, concise technical writing and communication skills A collaborative approach and interest in AMR risk management About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū You’ll join the Assessments team within ACVM at New Zealand Food Safety, a highly skilled, supportive group of specialist advisers working on veterinary medicines, agricultural compounds, and AMR regulation. The team works closely with colleagues across the Ministry for Primary Industries, industry, and international regulators, combining deep technical expertise with a shared commitment to protecting New Zealand's food system, trade reputation, and long-term sustainability.
